Art Monteleone (2025)
Lifetime Achievement

A 1962 Butler Area High School graduate, Art Monteleone has coached youth sports in Butler and officiated high school football and basketball games for 54 years and counting. At 81 years old, Art is still an active referee.

In school, Art competed in baseball, basketball and football. He played in the old Butler Bantam and Prep Baseball Leagues, at the local YMCA and Butler Junior Chamber of Commerce Basketball League, and the Butler Midget Football League.

Art earned 2 JV and 2 varsity letters in football while playing for the legendary Art Bernardi. Following graduation Art attended and graduated from Butler County Community College. Throughout his worklife, Art competed in basketball, softball, football and golf in various local industrial and city leagues, playing on teams from Pullman, the Butler Cubs and Rick’s Signs.

Art coached midget football for more than 21 years and served as the local league’s president for 10 years. Art also coached for 5 years in the Butler Bantam Baseball League and high school level basketball for 10 years in the Catholic Youth Organization League. For 25 years, Art served as coach, athletic director and president for the Butler Cubs Athletic Association where he promoted, organized, coordinated and ran huge annual tournaments for Western Pennsylvania basketball teams. 

Art was also instrumental in organizing the boxing program and events at the Butler Cubs, working with Rich Gregory and Don Spinetti, Butler’s Hall of Fame boxing coaches.

Art is also a reknowned and respected PIAA official across multiple sports. He is in the PIAA Sports Officials Hall of Fame.
