A 1986 Southemoreland High School graduate, Scott Stoner was a 3-year letter winner, 1-time Section Champion, 1-time Westmoreland County Champion and broke his school’s record for pins.

Scott continued his career at Slippery Rock University under legendary coach (and fellow hall of famer) Fred Powell. Scott was a 4-year letter winner, wrestling in the 118- and 126-pound weight classes. He was a 2-time PSAC Tournament finalist, 1-time NCAA Eastern Regional runner-up and a 1-time Division I national qualifier. As a senior, Scott fell one match shy of Division I All-American status. He finished his collegiate career with a record of 89-39-3. He coached at SRU for 2 years following his graduation.

Following college, Scott took over a 1-year-old wrestling program at Butler Area High School in 1993. He has since coached multiple state qualifiers and place finishers; won more than 40 tournament titles; and 20-time WPIAL Team Tournament qualifiers. Scott currently has a team dual meet record of 453-202; ranks 1st in all-time wins among active WPIAL coaches; and 2nd in all-time wins in WPIAL history. At the PIAA-level, Scott ranks 16th all-time. Scott was voted WPIAL Section Coach of the Year in 1998-99, 2021-22 and 2022-23. He was voted WPIAL Coach of the Year in 2021-22.

In the spring of 2021, Scott founded Legacy Wrestling and Fitness, a nonprofit organization. The venture provides wrestling, gymnastics and fitness classes, among other activities, to participants of all ages.
